To welcome in the summer, I decided to make my own
Blackberry and Jasmine soda.
This refreshing treat is easy and fun to make!
You should try it too :o
INGREDIENTS: 2 cups of fresh blackberries 3/4 cups of sugar 1 1/2 cups of water 5 Jasmine tea bags (remove the jasmine from the bag) 6 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice (2-3 lemons) seltzer
INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Put blackberries, jasmine, sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring ingredients to a boil.
2. After it boils for 1 minute, reduce heat and simmer for 8 minutes.
3. Remove from heat.
4. Take a potato masher or something similar and mash the berries to extract as much juice as possible.
5. Let cool than put the mixture in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or until cold.
6. Remove from fridge and add the lemon juice. Stir contents.
7. Strain the mixture in a fine mesh strainer.
8. Once that is done, add as much seltzer as you want to achieve the right amount of sweetness.
The other night, my friend Scott and I adventured down to
lower Manhattan to meet Zachary Quinto.
Yup- Spock/Sylar/Sasan on So Notorious. That awesome guy.
I so got my Star Trek communicator signed!!
But that is not the point of this post.
The reason he was at Midtown Comics was to promote LUCID- a graphic novel. It is written by the actor Michael McMillian (A.K.A. Steve Newlin on True Blood) and illustrated by Anna Wieszczyk, a current student.
I usually don't read graphic novels but this one looks interesting. It centers around the Agent Matthew Dee, a newly appointed "Protector of the Realm". His mission, which sounds simple, is to protect mankind from supernatural threats. However, his first month on the job doesn't turn out to be a walk in the park. Check it out and have fun reading :)
Many of you have been wondering about this Etsy store I keep talking about. It will come soon, I just want to make sure the quality of the products are good enough to post! And I really want weaving to be my main craft, but this loom I ordered has yet to be delivered. In the meantime, these are some soft cover notebooks I made from scratch. They are printed and embroidered by yours truly. They are a work in progress but if you are interested in purchasing these, please email me for details. They cost $5 plus shipping. You have the option of blank white pages or graph paper so please specify your choice.
Even though I've only seen a handful of this years nominees- I am rooting for The Kings Speech. Yeah I shouldn't truly judge till I see all the contenders but it was such a deeply moving film that in my opinion trumped True Grit and The Social Network on an emotional level. And both Colin Firth (Mr Darcy :)) and Geoffrey Rush deserve awards. The movie works so well because the two of them and it is hard to imagine the film working without that relationship.
Don't get me wrong, I mean who am I to judge? Seriously, I am watching the Oscars to see James Franco and root for Helena Bonham Carter- the most kick ass actress. This is just my two cents. And one last thing- I really hope that Bansky shows up in a monkey mask!!
Being a Little Lebowski myself, I just had to make a pilgrimage to the Little Lebowski shop in Greenwich Village. All dudes and dudetts must abide and check this kitschy place out. When one walks in, they are greeted by a dude lookalike- robe and all. Filled with t-shirts, bowling pins, a toilet and a rug that really ties the room together- this store is a must for all fans of the movie. Now if you excuse me, I'm off to drink a white russian and go bowling. Peace.
This last picture is from an entrance to a restaurant nearby.
Though the lovely Zachary Quinto has left the show, check out the other excellent performers while you can. Billy Porter as Belize puts on a memorable performance that should not be missed. Ok enough of this review- get yourselves down to the theatre!! NOW!
